If you've been paying attention to any of the good shows or movies released in the past couple of years, you would have heard of Taylor Sheridan. This guy has mastered the television formula and achieved excellence in his ability to tell different kinds of stories. He helmed the Yellowstone series (which included 1883 & 1923, all of which are in the same universe), Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and many more. This guy has his hand in so many different pots, you wouldn't even believe it. Remember Sicario in 2015? Taylor Sheridan made his screenwriting debut with that film, showcasing his remarkable talent. I can go on and on, but let's focus on why we're here.

Landman is a captivating drama series that often makes me believe it is a comedy, thanks to Billy Bob Thornton's incredible performance and humorous nature. Right off the bat, the show throws you into the life of Tommy Norris, reminding you that this is not a comedy but rather a real world in which people live. The TV series is inspired by the popular podcast "Boomtown" which was created by Christian Wallace, whom Sheridan chose to co-create the show with. I wholeheartedly believe there is not another actor on this planet who can play this character like Billy Bob Thornton can. You have to give credit where credit is due, and that is in the writing room when Sheridan and Wallace were creating his character. We follow Tommy Norris, a seasoned landman who works the oil fields of West Texas. The show thrives when portraying the multifaceted nature of the oil industry, from the corporate executives to the ground-level workers, and all the hardships each need to endure. Personally, it usually takes me a couple episodes to really get all in with a character and the narrative, but the writing allows you to relate and be empathetic with the characters almost immediately. Ali Larter, who plays Tommy's ex-wife, nearly steals the show every time she is on the screen. I don't think there is a weak link in this cast either. Jon Hamm, Ali Larter, and Paulina Chavez specifically deliver great performances that immerse you in this world. I think Demi Moore has yet to showcase her abilities in this series, but I don't think that takes away from what she has brought thus far, which included an emotional monologue about legacy. Truly excited to see what the second season has to offer, especially with the addition of a great actor who I do not want to spoil. I can announce, however, that Sam Elliot will be in season 2, which is something I am extremely excited for. He is such a well-decorated actor (Sheridan also used him in the 1883 series) who definitely brings a lot to the table. Definitely give this a watch.
